Zappos.com runs its fulfillment center seven days a week around the clock with the belief that their key to success is outstanding customer satisfaction. They stock more than three- million shoes, handbags, clothing items and accessories from over 1,136 brands. Their focus on the customer has resulted in rapid growth over the past nine years with gross merchandise sales of $840 million in 2007.
Kerr-Greulich was called to help diagnose and develop solutions with the climate control inside their main facility. The project required a rapid response and an enduring and environmentally-aware solution. We designed and installed a new HVAC system within weeks.
Selected project highlights include:
A design/build cooling system with a temperature decrease in the facility from 110° to 75° within 90 days.
The system required the use of 600 tons of cooling with over a half-mile of connected pipe.
Despite the dramatic temperature decrease, the connected energy load increased less than 0.75 Kw/Ton.
