CSX Transportation - Dispatch Facility - Emergency Generator Power Upgrade

This critical dispatch facility controls all of CSX train traffic in a high traffic region.
This operation is so critical that CSX directed the design team to come up with a solution that would not take the dispatch facility off line while the old UPS was taken out of service and the new UPS system put into operation.
Kerr-Greulich developed a detailed plan of temporary power systems and specific action plan that provided step-by-step procedures for the electrical contractor to disconnect and remove the existing distribution equipment and connect the new UPS systems, generator set and transfer switches while the facility stayed in full operation.
The existing single UPS was replaced with a new dual redundant electrical system supported by two 80 KVA UPS systems, one new 300 KW diesel generator set, one existing 300 KW generator set and new transfer switches.
