Harshaw Trane Office Building and Trane Parts & DSO Building
Louisville, Kentucky
Trane is a leading global provider of both residential and commercial HVAC solutions which improve indoor environmental quality. Kerr-Greulich Engineers has worked with Harshaw Trane for the past two decades and we were pleased to be a part of the design team for their new LEED certified headquarters.
Highlights of the KGEI design include:
Kerr-Greulich provided a comprehensive life-cycle cost analysis for several HVAC systems. The owner wanted an unbiased evaluation with hard data and evidence to support the conclusions.
The life-cycle was extended to evaluate a low velocity duct system versus medium and high velocity comparing initial duct costs to increased fan horsepower in operating costs.
The system selected was a single duct, variable air volume system with energy recovery.
A central Building Automation System to control the environment, energy use, and lighting.
The support of this effort and the overall system selections are evidence of Harshaw Trane's commitment to sustainable design and the environment.
The Parts Center warehouse employs cross ventilation fans to increase occupant comfort during summer months.
Office areas in both buildings utilize roof mounted variable volume air handlers and variable air volume terminals to accommodate the load diversity in the spaces.
Energy management systems are used on both buildings to monitor and track energy use.
Low flow toilet fixtures.
Training room with gas, electric, and flue hook-ups for connection of equipment for demonstration and training.
Fully sprinkled per NFPA 13.
Incorporation of fire pumps to supply fire sprinkler system.
Compliance with IECC 2006.
Incorporated use of occupancy sensors or dual switching for lighting control based on space usage.
Incorporated use of time clock to "sweep off" interior lighting at unoccupied time with use of 2 hour over-ride switch for lighting during these unoccupied times.
1200 amp electrical service.
