Home of the Innocents - Phase II

The Home of the Innocents has served the Louisville community and its children for more than 125 years. The current expansion involves five new buildings; the Hockensmith Assessment Center, the Childrens Classroom Center, the Pediatric Care Center, Shelter Cottage, and an Advanced Therapy Center. The Shelter Cottage in particular will be used as a group home totaling 6,000 square feet. The Advanced Therapy Building will be 20,000 square feet containing a pool and additional therapy services to serve children with mental retardation and other disabilities. Currently, the organization serves 250+ children a day and is expected to increase their total after the completion of these five buildings. The Kerr-Greulich design Includes:
Coordination with existing electrical service to the campus for normal and emergency power.
Corrosion resistant natatorium luminaires used in therapy pool area. Luminaire is not mounted over the pool, but around the perimeter of the pool area for ease in maintenance and safety.
Emergency power receptacles are provided throughout the Advanced Therapy Center for the use of portable ventilators.
Child protective receptacles and fire alarm manual pull stations with plexi-glass are located throughout the facility.
Aquifer well water is used to geothermally heat and cool the buildings. The well water is also used for pre-cooling the airstream to reduce the chiller load then introduced into the condensor side of the chiller increasing system efficiency. Three buildings use the well water to supply geothermal heat pumps.
Therapeutic natatorium design utilizes well water for cooling and provides excess heat to the pool water, reducing the natural gas load required to heat the water.
Flexible sprinkler head drops.
CPVC and PEX domestic water piping with distribution manifolds, resulting in cost savings and ease of installation.
