Humana - Disaster Recovery Facility
Simpsonville, Kentucky

Humana Inc., founded in 1961 in Louisville, Kentucky, is a Fortune 100 company that markets and administers health insurance. With a customer base of over 11.5 million in the United States, the company is the largest (by revenues) Fortune 100 company headquartered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Kerr-Greulich has worked with and supported Humana's efforts for many years.

Humana requested Kerr-Greulich's support in the design of a 22,000 square foot data center that was constructed to provide for a full capacity back up to the existing critical data center.

  • The project included a critical electrical distribution system with a UPS system made up of four (4) 750 KVA UPS systems connected in a dual redundant configuration in order to provide for 1500 KVA of uninterruptible power capacity.
  • A later expansion project included a pair of 500 KVA UPS systems; bring the total uninterruptible power capacity to 2000 KVA.
  • The electrical service is supported by two utility services served from two separate utility substation feeders.
  • The project includes two (2) 2,000 KW diesel generator sets connected to a 3000 amp, 277/480 volt paralleling switchgear with expansion capability to support the entire facility. Subsequently, an additional 2000 KW generator set was installed and put into service to support the rapid expansion of the facility process load.
