Mercer Data Center
Louisville, Kentucky

Mercer is a global leader for trusted HR and related financial advice, products and services. Mercer has more than 18,000 employees serving clients in over 180 cities and 40 countries and territories worldwide. Kerr-Greulich was selected to assist Mercer in the design and construction of a new data center in their Louisville, KY office to serve as a regional data center for their company.

Highlights of the KGEI Design Include:
  • The 6,000 square foot data center is located on the sixth floor of a high rise building, requiring extensive coordination with not only the client, but the building owner, other tenants, and utility service providers.
  • The data center is supported by two, 450-KW UPS's and multiple PDU's to provide a redundant power distribution system.
  • Mechanical conditioning of the data center is provided by five, 20-ton self-contained Liebert CRAC units connected to a common glycol condenser water loop with a redundant piping design and N+1 dry coolers located on a second floor roof.
  • The UPS distribution system, lights, and HVAC are supported by a 1200-KW diesel generator set. The diesel generator was installed in a mechanical room on the third floor of the high rise building, along with the UPS, batteries, and power distribution system.
  • Two, 1,000-gallon diesel storage tanks were installed in the basement of the building and the fuel distribution system was designed to serve the generator on the third floor.
  • The Data Center is protected by an FM 200 system. The UPS and generator mechanical spaces are protected by a pre-action wet sprinkler system.
  • The HVAC for the raised floor area is provided by the use of CRAC units located on the raised floor.
