The National Corvette Museum
Bowling Green, Kentucky
The National Corvette Museum has expanded with an additional 47,000 square feet to enhance existing services and offerings to better serve Corvette enthusiasts. These changes have created a striking all-American environment which captures the soul of the Corvette and Corvette owners. Kerr-Greulich completed the MEP design and provided construction administration services.
Design features include:
Shops for the use of the Museum members are fully equipped with compressed air and service bays. Hot water is provided for laundering the Corvettes. Restrooms are fully equipped with low-flow, electronically operated faucets and valves.
Inside and outside lighting, including indirect lighting and small-scale roadway lighting to create a streetscape indoors and special theatrical LED lighting surrounding the storefronts windows along the Corvette Boulevard.
A new 277/480 volt underground electrical service that supports the facility expansion and replaced the existing service by backfeeding the existing service distribution.
Lighting for the main conference hall included a lighting control system that allows for segmenting the space for multiple simultaneous events and electrical system access points for temporary event requirements.
The need to operate motor vehicles inside the building and the variant usage of the main conference hall required specialty ventilation and HVAC systems. Exhaust emissions were addressed through a carbon monoxide sensing system tied into the exhaust fans, and integrated clean outside air system to regulate and maintain design conditions. Eight rooftop HVAC units were designed to operate in stages to economically address the wide range in uses of the Conference Hall from small gatherings, to major car auctions.
The building is fully sprinklered using wet, dry, and chemical systems.
