Frazier International History Museum
Louisville, Kentucky

The Frazier International History Museum, one of the greatest collections of arms, armor, and related historical artifacts in the world, opened its doors in May 2004 to a state-of-the-art, 100,000 sq-ft. facility with three floors of artifacts that capture over 1,000 years of history. The experience includes theatres, multi-media and interactive displays, life-size tableaux, live performance areas and a rooftop garden with an extensive view of the Ohio River. The 100,000-square-foot, world-class museum required world-class engineering and Kerr-Greulich provided complete MEP design services.

Some highlights include:
  • A fire protection system that continually samples the air to detect minute particles. The system gives staff the earliest possible notice that something is wrong - before the sprinkler system is activated.
  • Individual mechanical controls in the galleries for cost-effective, yet precise, regulation of humidity and temperature, which is necessary to protect fragile artifacts.
  • An electrical system that features an emergency generator to maintain the temperature and humidity levels if power is lost.
  • Dramatic lighting engineered in collaboration with museum lighting experts.
